Those of you who love to grill out everything that they eat are not happy with a simply grill that sits in the middle of their patio. They have a passion for a type of cooking that not everyone can achieve and the best way to focus on this passion is to design the ideal space needed to cook everything they love. They need the perfect outdoor kitchen that has everything they could ever want.
When we think of an outdoor kitchen the first thing that we think about is the amount of space that is needed. Although the majority of these kitchens are large and rather spacious this is not a requirement. After all not everyone has the large kitchen inside of their home so why should you be restricted outside as well?
Outdoor Kitchen Layout
The first thing you have to do when designing an outdoor kitchen is to create a layout. This will help you to know how large it can be and what features your kitchen can have. Measure out the space that you have in your backyard and use a special home improvement program to help you put everything together. These programs cost between $50 to $500 and help you to visualize the end result.
Patio Materials
Most people who build an outdoor kitchen will build it over their existing patio or will build one from scratch. It is important that you use materials for the patio that will help to make it durable, easy to clean, and affordable. Cement is the cheapest type and can sometimes be give a unique color. Over the patio it is best to build a type of covering or awning. This will allow you to cook even when it is raining and to keep your kitchen partially protected.
Outdoor Kitchen Appliances
Obviously you will want a grill that is large so you can cook for big parties. To save on space you can have it built into the counters or on the end of them. Other accessories and appliances you will want to consider is a pizza oven and at least one sink. The pizza oven is a common appliance in an outdoor kitchen but it does require more money to install it and hook up the necessary gas lines.
Good food and good drinks go hand in hand so make sure you have the necessary bar and refrigerator in your outdoor kitchen. Although it will increase the cost it keeps you from having to run inside anytime you need something. You will want it to be large enough to hold you and your friends and room for bar stools.
Kitchen Furniture
When picking out furniture for your outdoor kitchen you want to find something that is durable, all weather, lightweight, and will match the décor that you want. You can do one of two things depending on the size of your kitchen. You can set up a patio dining set in the center of the kitchen or off to one side. Another option is to purchase a patio sofa and a few chairs that can be scattered around the whole area.
While the dinette set is more ideal the sofa and chairs offer more comfort and are best used when you have an outdoor fireplace on one end of the kitchen. These come in a variety of materials ranging from wicker to metal. Find the one that you can easily take care of and that is comfortable.
